Obaseki Defect To The PDP: What We know So Far

There have been reports that the Governor of Edo State Godwin Obaseki has defected to the PDP.

However, when the National publicity secretary of the PDP Kola Ologbodiyan was contacted, he said the party have not gotten any information about the defection of the Edo state governor Godwin Obaseki formally joining the party from his ward.

There has been rumors and reactions especially on social media concerning Obaseki joining the PDP.

The BreakingTimes through its twitter handle had reported that the Edo State Governor just collected his membership card from Ward 4, Oredo Local Government and that the PDP governors are to visit him this weekend.

Kola while speaking to a reporter said, the PDP has procedures and principles that must be followed for anybody that wishes to join the party, and that is they must first join from the ward.

He said the PDP will welcome anyone who wants to join the party as they are open, transparent, free and just.

The publicity secretary further said joining the party and having a membership card does not mean contesting for an election. There are procedures to follow for those who want to contest he said.

The Chairman of the People Democratic Party in Edo State Tony Aziegbemi also said he had not received any request from the Edo State governor about his intention to join the party. But if he wishes to join, that they are open and are ready to receive him.

The All Progressive Congress APC screening Committee had on Friday, disqualified Godwin Obaseki from running for the party’s primary. Citing discrepancies in his education and NYSC certificate as reasons for his disqualification.
