FG Orders Compulsory Health Insurance For NYSC Corps Members

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the Compulsory enrollment of all corps members in the National Health Insurance Scheme.

The personal assistant to the president on New Media, Mr. Bashir Ahmad revealed that the president has directed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to enroll all corps members in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). Bashir made this known via his Twitter handle on Wednesday, November 9, 2020.

Confirming the recent developments to journalist on Monday, the NYSC Director-General Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim said All arrangements to enroll corps members into the NHIS has been concluded in line with the presidential directive.

He explained that resources for critical health needs of corps members, including footing of medical bills have been expended.

“We have also expended huge Resources on critical health needs of corps members, including footing of medical bills,” Ibrahim said.

He noted that the scheme has put in place all safety measures in all the orientation camp in line with the guidelines necessary for the safety of corps members. 

He added that the NCDC had also inspected the orientation camp and had approved the measures put in place by the scheme.

Prioritizing the health needs of Nigerians is a goal of the Federal government of Nigeria as enshrined into the 1999 constitution.
