National Social Housing Programme (NSHP) – How To Apply And Requirements

There is a great shortage of homeownership in Nigeria, especially among the low-income earners. This is partly due to the high cost of owning a house in the country.

To solve this problem, the Federal Executive Council supported by the Central Bank of Nigeria, approved a N200 billion facility Social housing Scheme. The scheme is targeted at providing 300,000 affordable houses for low-income earners in Nigeria. And in the process, create employment opportunities in the country.

What Is The National Social Housing Programme (NSHP)

The National Social Housing Programme (NSHP) is an initiative of the federal government to make homeownership affordable for the less privileged Nigerian. Individuals or cooperative can acquire homes through this Programme for prices as low as ₦2 million.

300,000 National Social Housing Scheme (NSHS)

The Family Home Fund is a government agency that is responsible for the implementation of the scheme. The NSHP portal was launched by the Family Home Fund on the 16th of December 2020. The online portal will make the process for acquiring a home through the NSHP easy and transparent.

The Programme is expected to build about 300,000 affordable houses across different states in the country and in the process, create 1.8 million Jobs. States that have indicated an interest in joining the scheme include Osun, Ogun, Enugu, Delta, Bauchi, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Plateau, Federal Capital Territory, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo, Cross River, Sokoto, Kaduna, Zamfara, Katsina, Borno, and Yobe states.

The house project will be delivered through a competitive selection of 9,000 SMEs as delivery partners. Also, it will promote local content by providing opportunities for young professionals with qualifications, skills, and experience in building and construction to register interest to participate as SME partners.

Finally, the portal will allow Local manufacturers of building materials such as doors and windows, etc to register interest as bulk suppliers of these materials.

Available Homes And Prices

The homes available for Nigerians under the scheme include 

  • 2 – Rooms (1 Bedroom House) for ₦2,000,000
  • 3- Rooms ( 2 Bedroom House) for ₦2,750,000
  • 4-Rooms (3 Bedroom House) for ₦3,500,000

Requirements/ Eligibility For Owning A Home Under NSHP

To qualify and be eligible to own a home under the NSHP you must meet the following requirements.

  1. Be a Nigerian citizen
  2. Be over the age of 18
  3. Have a valid National Identify Card
  4. Show a reliable income.

After meeting these requirements, you will then be required to complete your profile by providing your details and also the type of house you are applying for, etc.

How To Apply For National Social Housing Programme (NSHP)

To own a house through the NSHP, visit the NSHP portal at www.nshp.gov.ng and register. 

Developers and partners can also apply through the portal.
