The BVN was born in reaction to the various financial related crime in the Nigerian banking system. It was a way for the authorities to curb fraudulent activities.

The Nigerian Government through the Central Bank of Nigeria introduced the BVN number for every bank account owner in the Country. This is in line with the CBN act of 1958 to reduce crime in the banking system.

What is a BVN

The BVN stands for Bank verification number and is an 11 digit unique number assigned to every bank account owner by the Central Bank of Nigeria. It is used to identify the owner of any bank account in Nigeria

Each person can only be assigned one BVN number. Those who have multiple accounts with different banks will have their BVN linked to them.

How To check your BVN On Airtel

It can be a problem to always remember your BVN Number, the goods news is that you can always check your BVN with your mobile phone whenever you need it. Especially if you use Airtel. This can be done by dialing a simple USSD code on your phone. You can also check your BVN if you use MTN here.

To check your BVN on Airtel, simply dial the USSD code *565*0#. After dialing this code, your BVN will be displayed on your phone and a service fee of N10 will be deducted from your Airtime. The above code will display your BVN whether you bank with UBA, Access Bank, First Bank, GTB or any other bank in Nigeria.

This code should be dialed on the same Airtel line linked to your BVN. That is, the number you provided during BVN registration.
